A few people have been asking me how life has changed since I went on the part-time scheme. Work wise, being on part time narrows down my job scope and helps me to direct my time at things that are important. Of course, half load on half pay is never just half load on half pay. It’s something like ¾ load on half pay. Moreover, my current workload and responsibilities is merely 2/3 that of last year. If I choose to look at whether the number of hours put in equates to my pay, I will end up feeling unhappy, bitter and dissatisfied.
What is important to me? Reading the bible is important to me, spending time dwelling on the deep things of God is important to me, spending time in the presence of God is important to me, learning is important to me, relationships with my friends are important to me, relationships with my family members are important to me, giving time to those who need me is important to me, exercise is important to me, brushing up on my guitar skills in order to give God my best is important to me, developing a good relationship with my kids is important to me, helping them get into the school of their choice is important to me. In the light of all these, money is not as important, other projects and administrative matters are not as important
What else is important to me? I appreciate getting more sleep on Tuesday and Wednesday. I appreciate having no lessons after 10 on Monday, Thursday and Friday, and I could use the time to do my marking and planning. To summarise, I am able to give more to my kids whilst retaining the other stuff on my plate and yet still feel relaxed. That is important to me.
What’s next? I have been praying. My prayer group prayed for God to show me how best I can use my time about a month ago and God has put different ones in my path shortly after and that has been encouraging. I believe in the power of prayer and whilst I have an inkling what is coming next year, I believe that God will give more clarity as I continue to look to Him.
